Table in the Trees

A 200-foot-long table brings people together over wine, immersed in the Oregon landscape.
Created for Antica Terra in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Table in the Trees offers a gathering place beneath the canopy of a native oak savannah. West of West’s central contribution was to conceive a curated hospitality experience without a building, preserving the character of the landscape while giving wine tasting and shared meals a distinct setting.
The 200-foot-long table winds through the trees, with clusters of seating creating places to gather along its length. The canopy provides a sense of enclosure, while views between the trunks keep guests connected to the surrounding land. Dappled light, shifting shadows, and seasonal changes shape the experience, allowing the setting to remain the focus.
Cast in place from concrete hand-seeded with stones gathered from the site, the table draws its material character directly from its surroundings. Its deep terracotta surface reveals fragments of stone, giving the substantial form a tactile connection to the ground beneath it. The table becomes a lasting element within a landscape that continues to grow and change.
West of West carried the project from concept through design development, documentation, and delivery as architect of record. The result concentrates the intervention into a single shared object, creating a memorable place for hosting while leaving the experience of the landscape intact.
