House in Four Parts

Sisters, OR
MISSING ALT TEXT

The house in four parts is a vacation home for two families in Oregon’s high desert.

At either end of the house are bedroom suites for each family. One is two stories, and the other is three. The middle of the house has a dining volume and a living volume. Each programmatic element in the house is self-contained, allowing some parts of the house to be in use while others can be completely inactive. The surrounding landscape flows through the house, providing a more immersive experience of the high desert. An elevated viewing terrace and garden connect the home. This space is accessible only through the bedroom suites. The materials of the house are stacked concrete blocks and expressive timber framing. Most of the house has a rough and unfinished appearance except for a mirror band wrapping the terrace and reflecting the horizon.
